Austin, Texas – As the summer fades into fall, the fever for winning colossal jackpots continues to surge. The Powerball jackpot has swelled to an astounding estimated annuitized sum of $750 million for the drawing on Saturday, September 23rd. This ranks as the seventh largest Grand Prize in Powerball history and the third largest of the year 2023. The forthcoming drawing offers a cash value estimated at $350.6 million. In the event that no jackpot winner emerges from Saturday’s drawing, the Grand Prize for the following Monday, September 25th, is poised to reach an estimated annuitized amount of $785 million.
Gary Grief, the executive director of the Texas Lottery, remarked, “Excitement for Saturday’s Powerball drawing is building in Texas. While we are keeping our fingers crossed that this Powerball jackpot is won by a Texas Lottery player, we want to remind our players to play responsibly. It only takes one ticket to win.”
Saturday’s drawing will mark the 28th in the ongoing Powerball jackpot run, which commenced with an estimated annuitized prize of $20 million on July 22nd. This represents the most substantial Powerball jackpot up for grabs since the staggering $1.08 billion prize in the July 19th drawing, which was won by a ticket holder in California.
Since Texas joined the Powerball game in 2010, the state has celebrated two Powerball Grand Prize winners, with the most recent being in February 2015 when TL Management Trust, represented by Andrew Weber of Austin, shared in a $564.1 million Grand Prize with two other winners.
In 2023 alone, Texas has produced 20 second-tier Powerball prizes of $1 million or more, including three during the ongoing jackpot run. Most notably, a Lytle resident secured a $2 million second-tier prize in the drawing on September 20th. Prior to that, a Wharton resident claimed a $2 million prize from the drawing on August 30th, and a San Antonio resident also celebrated a $2 million second-tier prize from the August 12th drawing.
The Powerball Grand Prize commences at $20 million and escalates until a jackpot winner is declared. Players attain the Grand Prize by matching five numbers from a pool of 69 and one Powerball number from a pool of 26. For an additional $1 per Play, players can opt for Power Play®, which can multiply non-Grand Prize winnings by two, three, four, five, or ten times*. The Power Play Match Five (5+0) prize is consistently set at $2,000,000, regardless of the Power Play number selected. Other non-Grand Prizes will be subject to multiplication based on the Power Play number chosen.
